Since the implementation of the Eleventh Five-year Plan, the discipline has formed a strategy of concentration and innovation, focusing on the political system history in Zhou, Qin, Han, Tang, and Song dynasties, cultural history, and other specific historical topics. The department has furthered researches in those fields and made some creative achievements. We not only strengthened the original advantages, but also developed new growing subjects. For example, leaded by Professor Chen Feng, the research group studied the ancient Chinese military and made great achievements. For the first time, they revealed the formation of valuing civil official and restraining military officer in Song dynasty. They studied the violent military thoughts under the major consciousness domination, the military force, ancient strategic culture, military expenditure in Tang Dynasty, the military law in Song Dynasty and the northwestern strategies of Tang and Song governments. Many papers as well as monograph series concerning these important issues have been published on the authority and core journals. The achievements have not only filled a lot of academic blanks, but also made some clarification and supplement, which promoted the development of AncientChineseHistory.
Different projects have been approved, including the eight national projects, seventeen provincial or ministerial projects, and other twenty three important projects. In total, 2,074,500 RMB has been achieved for doing scientific researches.
Nine papers have been published in authority journals and ninety one in core journals. Over one hundred papers and fifteen books have been published and the annual is still under publication. Among them, the researches about the Ancient Chinese Military and Politics consolidated the advantages in Chinese History Study and extended the academic influence within our country. The related research findings got many awards both in Xi’an and in Shaanxi province.
Many top academic conferences have been held successively including the High-Level Forum on Qin and Han Dynasty History as well as the Third Academic Forum on Chinese Military History. Researchers have attended many academic conferences both at home and abroad and announced their papers, as a result, the academic exchanges have been enhanced and the discipline influence has been improved in our country.
