China’s modern history of disciplines was based on the 1950s, and received the right to confer a master’s degree in the 1986. It became the "211 Project" key construction disciple in 1997, and gained the second-level doctorate in 2005. The discipline since their formation, took the Xi’an Incident, the history of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region, the Northwest Regional Development as a research focus.
The Department is based on the Political Studies by the end of the Qing, Xi’an Incident; the Communist Party of China during the Yan’an period and the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region of social change, cultural and educational construction; modern economic development in the Northwest, focusing on industrialization of Shaanxi, Xinjiang, Gansu and other places, the agricultural economy of Ningxia, Shaanxi, road transport of Northwest. In recent years to expand the study a new perspective on the modern Northwest famine, Northwest Folklife, as well as the new social security system, social trends and fashion changes and clothing changes.
It Focuses on history, economics, sociology, theoretical guidance and interdisciplinary research methods and forms a unique advantage on the basis of the geographic advantage, to strive to build the characteristic high-level personnel training and scientific research base.
